Creative Well Being
We worked with a group of 5-year-olds and their parents/carers to improve emotional health and well-being by building
self-efficacy, better understanding and expression of emotions and to improve behaviours, including
improvements to poor sleep.
This project is our first working with early years and parents/carers. Using well-loved bedtime story books as a focus for creative activities, over 12 weeks we will: create content working in a range of inspiring locations; learn healthy sleep habits; and develop positive family relationships.
This work was commissioned by 0-19 Torbay and NHS Torbay and South Devon Foundation Trust.
Families co-produced a podcast by the end of programme to feature:
- Stories
- Reflections on their learning + experience of the programme
- Real life success stories
- Top tips for bedtime routines
- Relaxing ASMR recordings
- Any other content participants want to include
We will teach parents/carers behaviour management techniques through observing our staff modelling.
Aims:
- Expand ability for young people to interact with the world around them through using creativity
- Provide a new set of skills for self-expression and communication
- Give opportunity for marginalised voices to be heard, loud and clear, in the role of expert
To support these key areas of development through creativity:
- Communication skills e.g. expressing emotions
- Problem-solving skills
- Social + emotional skills
- Fine motor skills
- Building self-efficacy
- Improve behaviours + poor sleep patterns
