Making Waves
Making Waves is a radio and music programme of well-being support, personal development, skills and work experience for vulnerable and at risk young people in Torbay aged 11-25.
Through local partnerships such as Torbay Youth Trust, Devon Music Hub, Brunel Academy, Integrated Youth Support Service, we recruit young people who are struggling with loneliness and isolation and/or poor mental health.
They receive one to one and small group trauma-informed support, music/radio skills development, training and work experience. Many of these young people go on to join the social action communities of Ocean Youth, Oceanside Records and Ocean Digital. Through this involvement they are encouraged to produce podcasts, music and/or live broadcasts to support young listeners across the bay.
We are targeting girls and young women through Feel Good funding from the Devon Community Foundation. Our hope is to recruit a new generation of female young leaders to attract many more female producers in the future.
Key Aims:
- Develop young people's creativity
- Support young people's mental health
- Reduce social isolation and loneliness in young people in Torbay
