Play by Ear
Play By Ear is an early intervention programme using creative music, radio production and multi-platform broadcasting to engage and inspire disadvantaged and vulnerable children and young people in their communities across Torbay. This two year project targets 120 young people with a talent or interest in music and/or radio.
Participants explore and reflect on their lives and the challenges that they face using live and prerecorded radio features, 3D dramas, rapping, songwriting, spoken word and jingles. They are broadcasting this content live in community-based music radio events to celebrate their achievements and produce digital images for online sharing. The participants aim to earn an Arts Award Discover accreditation.
The Sound Communities team are working alongside established artists to improve their skills and offer further opportunities to the young people we work with.
- To increase confidence in disadvantaged young people’s creative expression to develop skills of disadvantaged young people and improve their self esteem and well being
- To celebrate their achievements within the community
