WAVE Academy
Students from the River Dart Academy and Stansfield School have attended our provision at Sound Communities' studios since 2020.
Both of these schools cater for young people whose mainstream school placement has broken down due to a variety of reasons including social/emotional/mental health needs.
There have been some great successes working with the students including a regular podcast called ‘Wavey Wednesdays’ and raps written, performed and recorded by students at the studios. Students frequently plan and prepare their work over a number of sessions before working towards a product at the end.
Additionally, some students who have particular aspirations in the area of music have accessed Sound Communities for work experience opportunities.
Key Aims:
- Learn new skills in creative media
- Increase confidence to express participants' emotions
- Allow young people’s voices to be heard
- Increase access to broadcasting
